January 18 from 10-11:30 Repot those Orchids!
Although enveloped in mystery and legend, orchids are not difficult to grow in our homes if we observe a few simple rules of care. They are different, not difficult! This visual presentation includes the cultural requirements of growing orchids, as well as their structure, growth habits, re-potting and reproduction. We will explore the great diversity in the Family Orchidaceae.
Carol Gravens became a St. Louis Master Gardener in 2001 after retiring from a professional career as a microbiologist. She is also a Master Naturalist. As an Advanced Master Gardener she volunteers in many capacities, but her first plant love is orchids, and she grows about 300 of them in her home. Carol can be found every Thursday volunteering in the orchid greenhouses at Missouri Botanical Garden, helping to care for the Garden’s extensive orchid collection. She also shares her love of orchids by speaking to various garden clubs and community groups. She completed a degree in Horticulture in her retirement and is a Master Gardener of the Year. She is a past president of the Orchid Society of Greater St. Louis.

Need some ideas about how to use fresh herbs in your cooking? Mary Hammer from The St. Louis Herb Society will give you some ideas to try in your own kitchens on Saturday, February 29 from 10:00-11:30 AM. We’ll talk about growing herbs in containers and in the ground, and we’ll also have a few herbs for you to see, taste and SMELL. April 18 from 10-11:30 Container Gardening
Each spring gardeners get excited about buying plants, but often we plant the same things in the same old pots! Want some fresh ideas? Come learn from two Master Gardeners the basic principles of container planting with a fresh twist! Healthy plants from our greenhouse will be used in new and unique ways to demonstrate the art of growing in containers. After the class, you will have time to tour the greenhouses and get a preview of what you might purchase at our plant sale on May 2nd.
